Halloween is the perfect time for kids and to go Gothic. Vampires, witches, fairies, ballerinas, mummies and zombies all dressed in the darker colors of the rainbow: red, scarlet, purple, burgundy, fuchsia and blue. Mysterious, morbidly pale complexion makeup and dyed black hair wigs. Kids and teens love punk, classical Goth Costumes because they are a little bit more scary, edgy and out-of-the-ordinary. They have more styles, such as steam punk and Victorian, and combinations to choose than from the regular-style kids costumes.
Gothic-inspired costumes are characterized also by a variety of fun and pretty textures such as velvet, brocade, lace, satin, fishnet, leather, gold and silver, crinkled mesh, fringes, feathers and sequins. Girls’ dresses feature empire-style corsets, long, draped, puffy or bell sleeves, sheer overlays, hoop underskirts, petticoats, tutus, sleevettes, long gloves and glovettes, while boys’ outfits include hooded robes, reversible or black capes, faux leather jackets, long sleeve overcoats and vests.
Accessories include black and silver jewelry; necklaces, chokers and tiaras with cross pendants as well as medallions designed with Halloween symbols such as bats, skulls, skeletons, spiders/ spider-webs, black roses and antique-looking buttons; hats, wigs, head veils, masquerade masks, half masks, stand-up collars, skull and spider-web tights and boot covers.
Vampires and vampiresses have the bloody makeup details, yet always look romantic with the old-fashioned details, which make them look like they stepped in from another era. Zombies are all the craze this year, and when combined with the Gothic-style, costumes instantly become more interesting.
Try something different this year. Go Goth and you won’t regret it. People will be impressed at the transformations and not recognizing the person underneath the Gothic disguise.
