The Batman Costume and Robert Pattison Stirring Up Rumors!
By Esteban Cepedo
As we enter the new year, we're even closer to the exciting release of the highly anticipated Batman reboot and The Batman costume and Robert Pattison are stirring up rumors! The film, which is being released in 2021, has been drawing plenty of attention and this is in a great part due to the casting of Robert Pattison in the lead role. Pattison, one of the main actors from the Twilight franchise, whose romance with "Twilight" lead actress Kristen Stewart made headlines when she unceremoniously cheated on him with director Rupert Sanders during the filming of Snow White and the Huntsman, has acquired a dedicated following who believe he is perfect for the role. When it was announced that Ben Affleck would have the role of Batman for the film, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" fans were glued to their phones seeking photos. They were agog with rumors and wonder costume Batman was going to be re-imagined.
A teaser trailer, or posters hasn't officially been released yet exposing fans to Pattison's look as the new Caped Crusader. This is because the production of The Batman has just begun, though there are rumors from tweets that have been giving fans a bit of a sneak peek of what to expect. Wondercostumes.com, the leading online costume shop on the net, is a big Batman fan and their wide range of Batman costumes attest to the favoritism. Wondercostumes.com is also glued to the rumors, and though a lot of it may be hearsay, the talk points to an intriguing picture of a brand new Batman costume design that's going to come alive on the big screen. There are a lot of Batman costume concepts that span many decades that designers can be inspired by. It's these concepts that are definitely already driving the creation of this Batman's costume design. In September of 2019, there was a huge rumor about Robert Pattison's Batman costume having a vintage basis.
Compared to modern adaptations of Batman's costume which display more darker grey tones, his famous vintage costume held a much lighter appearance. Batman fans can't forget when the blue cowl, cape, briefs, boots, and gloves, were all an important piece of Batman's costume for so many years. This light aesthetic for Batman's costume hasn't been around since Adam West's days as Batman in the 60s. While modern Batman films have called for darker tones complimented with darker costumes, it would be the most interesting adaptation to see the blue come back in the next film.
The latest major rumor of Robert Pattison's Batman costume design is that the costume will be based on Lee Bermejo's artwork of Batman from Batman: Noël. Bermejo both wrote and illustrated the graphic novel with a storyline constructed from the classic holiday story, A Christmas Carol. Batman: Noël was published in 2011 and Batman's costume design that Bermejo presented followed the modern dark grey design. The outline of the cowl for Batman's costume is the most notable feature. There is a very fine definition of detail in the mask. Another iconic piece of the costume design is how the cowl dramatically falls into the cape and covering a portion of the chest. If the rumor of Bermejo's Batman costume design is true then it would, of course, be something brand new for fans to witness Robert Pattison's Bruce Wayne fight crime in.
Despite what direction the costume designers for The Batman film may take, the rumors that have been leaked take on two completely different concepts that are both exciting to see on-screen if either is implemented. Every artist for Batman within the comics brought their own vision towards the recreation of his costume. If the blue tones in Batman's costume make its return, it would pay homage to the early days of the hero's adventures. Given that Batman is a hero that operates in the shadows, fabricating lighter tones in his costume would conflict with the reasoning for why the darker colors seemed more appropriate.
All of the discussion has fans anxious for what's to come but no matter what happens, we surely have an exciting film in store for us! Robert Pattison has been training for months now to transform into the vigilante of Gotham and there's most likely a lot of thought going into the final product that would be Batman's costume. Don't forget that The Batman will be released to theaters on June 25, 2021 and make sure to check out WonderCostumes.com for your own Batman costume!
