Thanksgiving Festivities are Better in Costume

There is a special symbolism behind Thanksgiving costumes that does not translate to other holiday themed disguises.  Thanksgiving is a time in modern days where we focus primarily on gratitude and cover  the portion of American History that offers an example of the ideal family life. Ideally, everyone gathers together and contributes of themselves to create a harmonious setting of love, acceptance, and appreciation for all the gifts we are granted in this life as well as the differences that help us grow and develop as a family, community, and nation.

There are various ways in which this holiday is celebrated. One of the most well known is the reenactment of the Plymouth's first Thanksgiving dinner. Often, this theatrical play includes singing, dance, dressing up in costumes of the times, and of course, telling the story of this nation's first gathering to have inspired Thanksgiving to begin with. Dressing in costume really inspires the children to become more involved in their studies and increases their curiosity on the subject. Although the majority of students will dress as pilgrims and Native Americans, there is a great variety of styles that will allow your children to dress up as required while still having a unique style of their own. They can appear as an exact replica from the pilgrim times or chose a more modernized style that is still within the guidelines. Along with these outfits, we also offer turkey and pumpkin costumes that are absolutely adorable.

The ages for which we provide costumes range from infants to adults, so everyone can join the festivities in this manner! Perhaps you are reading this and thinking, "Well actually, I am not a parent, so what relevance does this have for me?" To which our response would be that there is no age limit to having fun and dressing up. Whether you are going to a family dinner, hanging out with friends at home or the bar watching the football game, wouldn't fun be exemplified when you make it a themed party with costume contests, Autumn decorations and even sexy pilgrims and attractive Native Americans everywhere? If you have a good sense of humor, turkey costumes as ideal well! You would definitely have everyone rolling in laughter with such a get up.

For more conservative Thanksgiving events, we recommend costume styles from our collection that are more traditional. Our pilgrim women costumes are available in the traditional long black dress with white apron, cuffs, and bonnets; long blue and brown dresses with half sleeves ending in white flowy cuffs; long floral dresses and more regal maroon dresses as well resembling the Queen of England just to list  a few variations.

For the male pilgrims, traditional black pants, jacket, belt, and hat with white collars are the staple look in a Thanksgiving costume. Other versions include long sleeved white cotton shirts with billowed sleeves and ruffled collars with brown overcoats as well if desired. Aside from the general pilgrim, we also offer colonial costumes representing the generals that wore white pants, and blue jackets with rounded hats trimmed in gold and with red shoulder pads. In addition to the typical outfit, accessories such as riffles makeup and wigs are available as well.

The Native American female costumes are certainly among the most creative ranging in various hues of beige, tans, dark chocolate and grays. All are fringed and vary in length, some being more contrasted, while others are mainly one tone shifting only slightly . Lovely belts and feathers adorn some of these outfits. The accessories often include lovely headbands appearing like buckskin, while others are full of feathered headpieces appearing as those the Native Chiefs would wear and still do to this day during ceremonial prayers for their ancestors. Beaded necklaces, bows and arrows, tomahawks, and walking sticks among many other accessories are also available as well if the theatrics require it.

For those not in theater, but particularly interested in having a nice night with family, friends or watching the games, there are also have many options. Pumpkin and turkey costumes for infants and toddlers are absolutely adorable; funny turkey hats, lovely native jewelry, purses, shoes and more are available as accessories for those who don't wish to dress in full while still maintaining some sense of Thanksgiving spirit.
