Spider-Man Costumes Swing Back into Closets for Halloween
If the stellar success of Spider-Man: Homecoming is anything to go by, we can safely assume you’ve seen it, and loved it too.
And why wouldn’t you?
It’s an incredibly fun John Hughes-esque ‘80s high school adventure that people of all ages can enjoy equally, albeit one that just so happens to feature one of the most popular costumed heroes of all time, and set in the most successful cinematic universe of all time.
And since it features what is arguably the greatest version of Peter Parker yet, it is only natural for audiences both casual and hardcore to be drawn to him and want to put on a Spider-Man costume of their own and emulate him and his antics as best as they can (though it would be advisable to not attempt any ferry rescues without consulting Mr. Stark beforehand).
All of that is certainly very welcome, because Spider-Man costumes could definitely use a popularity boost.Marvel
Now, to be fair, Spider-Man costumes haven’t exactly gone out of style in recent years, but they’ve certainly been shifted lower down the costume preference order, thanks to the arrival of more edgy and elaborate costumes.
Think of it as being less Best Actor in a Leading Role Winner, and more Best Actor in a Supporting Role Nominee – still pretty good, but not just as.
That, however, is all set to change this year, for Spider-Man: Homecoming gives the fans a Spider-Man costume for the ages, both in terms of design and innovation, one that can rightfully sit atop the list of all-time greatest Spider-Man costumes, and give Spider-Man a very good shot at reclaiming his crown of King of the Superhero Costumes Arena.…so what exactly makes Spider-Man: Homecoming costumes tick?
The most instantly attention grabbing quality of the Spider-Man costume featured in Spider-Man: Homecoming is that there’s no one single Spider-Man costume – there are three.
The film offers us three distinct Spider-Man costumes, two of which are prominently featured in the film with the third being teased for future installments.
The first of these costumes is the do-it-yourself costume Peter has made for himself, the one predating the events of Captain America: Civil War.Product # RU820723
Exactly the first costume a 15-year-old kid would make.
The most charming quality of the pyjama-like costume is how realistic it is.
And not just relatively realistic, absolutely realistic.
One look at the costume is all you need to believe that yes, this is exactly the crime-fighting costume a 15 year-old kid would come up with to protect his identity if he ever got super-powered – sweatpants and a hoodie, with minor insignia modifications and a pair of supposedly sewn on goggles to “help him focus”.
Because let’s face it, as impressive as the Spider-Man costumes worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were, it was hard to believe such a professionally finished costume could be made with just a sewing kit and some cloth by a teenager (to say nothing of the intricate webbing finishes and the eye lenses).
(it was also hard to believe either of Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield were teenagers, but okay)Product # WC54353
The Spider-Man: Homecoming costume is the perfect blend of the classic design with more modern elements.
The second costume to feature in the film actually made its debut in Captain America: Civil War, when Tony Stark gave Peter a brand new suit before heading into the airport battle (a scene hilariously recreated from Peter’s perspective in the new film’s opening minutes).
The costume is special for a number of reasons, with the first being how technologically advanced it is. This Spider-Man costume is an actual tactical tool, not just a costume to don while fighting crime. Having been made by Tony Stark, the costume features all the bells and whistles one might expect of it, from the uber advanced such as a fully featured artificial intelligence, multiple combat modes and webshooter combinations, web wings and a parachute, to the extremely obvious creature comforts such as heating and cooling.
And yes, while this has proven to be a bone of contention among the faithful as to how excessively sophisticated the new Spider-Man costume is, we would argue it – and how it came to be – makes a lot of sense.
If you were a fledgling superhero who was taken under the wing of a billionaire genius with a penchant for cranking out insanely advanced suits, would he give you a costume as functional and tactically advantageous as the ones he has for himself, or just a design upgrade that pays homage to your original amateur costume?
Regardless of the discrepancies in fan opinion regarding the new costume’s origin, there is a consensus in one regard – design.
It is now widely accepted that the new Spider-Man costume is also kind of the best one, simply by virtue of how it is extremely faithful to the original costume design (complete with the animated eyes!) while being practical and believable in both the real world’s and Marvel Cinematic Universe’s context.
It is incredibly hard to not be charmed by the costume’s old school design elements and colors, and dare we say, but the design itself is reason enough for countless fans to pick up the costume.A little taste of what’s coming.
And while we’re on the subject of design, how can we not address the costume teased at the end of the film? Towards the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of the Iron Spider costume (you know, the Iron Man like Spider-Man costume first introduced in the Civil War comic book) is revealed, and with the official release of the above image, and footage descriptions from Avengers: Infinity War, it is confirmed that this is the costume Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be wearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in all his future appearances. Now, full disclosure, you won’t be seeing this costume on Halloween, simply because it was kept hidden for far too long, but now that it’s been officially unveiled, and it’s been confirmed as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s default Spider-Man costume, you can expect it to dominate Halloween 2018, and we’re just doing our part giving you exclusive access to this information.
And let’s be real, this costume will dominate Halloween 2018. And why shouldn’t it?
This costume is arguably the greatest Spider-Man costume ever, the way it features a metallic Iron Man armor-like construction, with its overlapping metal plates, replaces the traditional blue of the costume with black for greater contrast and tops it all off with an oversized Spider insignia highlighted by golden accents that look just stunning.
The upcoming Spider-Man costume combines the greatest elements from every Spider-Man costume ever to build the greatest Spider-Man costume ever, and you know what they say folks: you heard it here first.Product # WC54385
But let’s come back to Spider-Man: Homecoming once again for a second, for there is still one costume we haven’t talked about, and that’s the film’s villain’s.
When it was first announced the film’s villain would be the Vulture, there was skepticism as to how a costume that ridiculous would be translated to film, but the first look at the movie’s Vulture costume assuaged all fears, for it is as menacing and impressive as any villain’s costume in recent memory.
The film’s Vulture costume is a sort of modified flight suit with a helmet, mechanized wings, and talons, all of which combine to create a chilling look that will send shivers down your spine.
And Michael Keaton’s intense performance and impeccable CGI only amplify that effect.
Expect to see a considerable amount of Vultures this Halloween.…and before we sign off…
Let’s talk about two more costumes. These aren’t strictly related to Spider-Man: Homecoming, but they are related closely enough to warrant a mention.
The first is Captain America’s Avengers costume, as seen in the film’s countless hilarious PSAs.Marvel Product # WC39110
The Avengers costume reappeareth!
Chris Evans makes a delightful cameo in the film, appearing in his Avengers costume that is sure to get a lot of fans excited, and you can expect the Captain America Avengers costume to get a small boost in popularity as fans attempt to recreate – and create their own – PSAs.
After all, this might have been the last time we saw Chris Evans don the Captain America costume, what with him taking up the Nomad identity and costume (plus grown out hair and beard) for Avengers: Infinity War.The second costume is the classic Spider-Man costume, the one that the Homecoming costume seems to have taken its design cues from.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can…
The original Spider-Man costume still holds up incredibly well after all this time, and the flat textures and solid colors create a fun retro vibe that will never go out of style.
Since the Homecoming costume is largely based off of this one, expect a significant resurgence in interest for it from the fans, because as great as the modern iteration of a beloved entity might be, there’s always something special about the original. All costumes featured in the article are available on Wonder Costumes, in addition to a wide selection of complementing accessories, costumes and costume kits.
