Pennywise Makeup Transformation
By Anita Alex
IT is a shapeshifter, taking on the form of any being he wishes. IT is an evil thing that is millions, maybe even billions of years older than anyone or anything. IT is a mysterious entity, whose origins come from another worldly dimension. He comes to Earth to feed on the innocent, his prey. His favorite disguise? A colorful, jokester clown in which he takes on the name Pennywise. He can devour any being, but his favorite treat? Children. After all, they are the most unsuspecting, the most innocent, and of course, the most fearful. With the symbol of his bright red balloon that signify his presence, victims become petrified and paranoid. Although the balloon itself is harmless, watching it appear out of nowhere can is extremely haunting.
For this tutorial, I show you how to become the malicious clown, Pennywise. You don’t need any fancy materials or even that many items overall. It’s a simple look that anyone can try on.
Things you will need:
White face paint
Black face paint
Red face paint
Makeup brushes
For the first step, take some white face paint and paint all over your face, excluding your eyes and lips. The paint that I used is a very thick cream which is perfect for covering your eyebrows as well..
For the next step, take some black face paint and fill in the eye area. With a black eyeshadow, pat directly on top of where you applied the black face cream to darken the area. Using a makeup brush, create a little pointed wing extending the dark eye makeup. This will create a more malicious, sinister look.
For the eyebrows, I used black eyeliner. You can also use black face paint and apply it with an angled brush. When drawing the eyebrows, create a very high arch.
The biggest feature of Pennywise, is his mouth. In the new movie, IT, Pennywise has a more pointed chin, making the red of his lips stand out more. To imitate this, use red face paint to color in the bottom of your lips, overlining it a little bit. The clown has a thin upper lip, so I only painted a thin stroke on the top lip.
Fill in the bottom of your nose with the same red paint as well.
Using a thin brush and the same red paint, create a line that connects from the edge of the mouth to the eyes.
To create his deep set wrinkles around his nose when he smiles, I used some black paint and mixed it with some white paint to create a gray color. Use a brush to create a line on either side of the nose.
To make the chin appear pointier, draw in the outline of his jaw structure with black and fill in the space.
Now just put on your wig and start scaring the life out of everyone!
