Ever since its debut of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in 1937, “Disney” has become a word known in every household. With more than 50 titles as of 2016, Disney has proven an indisputable ability to produce movies that bring a smile to every member of the family, every time. From enchanting classics like Snow White, Bambi, and Cinderella to modern triumphs like Frozen, Tangled, and Mulan, Disney movies survive the test of time, their colorful characters, dazzling costumes and pull-you-in plots memorable in the most vivid of ways even decades after watching them as a child.

If you have ever been aboard a Disney cruise ship, you know that they are pretty consistent with the Disney theme park experience.  Fantasy filled activities, state of the art recreational areas and ship design straight out of a Disney flick make Disney Cruise Lines the mother of all themed cruises.  What can make the Disney cruising experience merrier?  How about the look on your child’s—or even your own—face upon encountering Mickey, Minnie and a whole host of Disney characters, just as in the theme parks!  But why be an onlooker when you and your family can be part of the cast?  If you are planning a Disney cruise vacation, consider special outfits to wear on board.  Is not a requirement that you dress up and who knows, maybe Disney is wary of impostors posing as Disney staff (it’s happened at the parks).  But after checking the dress code and browsing your Disney outfit options, costumes will definitely make your cruise vacation unforgettable, especially if you have kids.

Disney’s appeal is one that seems to transcend time.  Just about anyone that was born after 1923 grew up on Disney characters that in some cases shaped childhoods.  Even as grown adults, people still connect with Disney; a simple ad, movie, song, TV show or visit to one of their parks manages to trigger childhood memories.  Once Disney is in your head, it’s in your head forever!  Parallel to Disney’s ever-increasing fan base is the demand for Disney costumes.  Every time a new movie comes out, multiple versions of the main character’s outfit are manufactured, but they are not passing trends.  Disney costumes from old films are just as popular today, and likewise, today’s Disney character costumes will be popular in the future.  What’s interesting is that most of these costumes are also available for adults and they sell out rather fast in our Disney costume webstore, which brings up the question: should adults dress up for recreational purposes (Halloween, theme parties, cosplay, etc.)?

It is never too early to look forward to something, and even though it is the middle of April, we—along with South Florida’s fanboys and fangirls— are looking excitedly toward July.  Why?  Because we can’t wait to see Florida Supercon’s amazing cosplay costumes this year.  The biggest comic con in Florida is coming once again to the Miami Beach Convention Center and it is celebrating 10 years of the best cosplay in Miami!  The Florida Supercon is to Miami’s cosplay costume geeks what the Ultra Fest is to ravers.  Like Ultra, the Supercon keeps growing and growing every year.  In 2006, Mike Broder (the founder) hosted the first Florida Supercon with a humble attendance of 1,500 guests at the Hollywood Beach Resort.  Today, more than 50K comic fans, cosplayers and outright proud geeks in South Florida—and from all over the country—come to see the best cosplay costumes in Miami Beach.

We were flattered when we learned the answer.  It has been happening more and more, people are coming from all parts of South Florida looking to us for a last minute solution.  Wonder Costumes is located in southwest Dade; if you are familiar with the city, you know that a person looking for costumes in Aventura must be in dire need before deciding to take the road trip to Kendall.  That was exactly the case of a customer who lives north of the Aventura Mall—close to the Waterways Marina—where she expected to find at least ONE costume store that opens all year in Aventura.  No luck.  Not even in Sunny Isles and Ojus.  Aventura is located near so many commercial areas in North Miami, it is a shame that so many people have to travel down south for a costume because the popular party retailers only stock up for Halloween.

It’s already the end of March but there are many good things that we, as a company, still look forward to accomplishing throughout the rest of 2016.  No, it is not all about business and selling more costumes—though that is always welcomed—there are some important causes that will fulfill Wonder Costumes’ 2016.  Certainly, one of those causes was scratched off the list before the year even started.  In late December, we had the pleasure and the privilege to take part in a very special donation that brought lots of happiness to the children of the Switchboard of Miami's ‘Sweetwater en Acción’ youth program.   Wonder Costumes has developed a special relationship with Switchboard of Miami; we have donated to the organization in the past to serve the community through their programs.  Being a business that specializes in costumes, it is in our agenda to bring joy to children.
