Unique Halloween Costumes by Charles Fréger

Finding creative Halloween Costumes has become a standard among fans of the celebration. Costume manufacturers are challenged every year with the daunting task of finding the newest trends and making them as unique as possible and yet ironically appealing to a massive demographic. However, French photographer Charles Fréger has found that true originality in Costuming is all about going back to your roots.
Fréger traveled across Europe in search of the most interesting native Costumes from diverse cultures that celebrate the wild side of humanity. In this project named "The Wilder Mann", Fréger created a photo gallery consisting of tribal costumes that at one point were made from animal skins, horns, furs and plants. In history, costumes served a purpose in hunting-gathering societies as Disguises that aided in catching prey but they were also used in rituals and ceremonies. Costumes also played a role in representing tribal hierarchy and a warrior's status. Take a look at some of these Unique Costumes that more than just a Halloween gimmick:
