Harry Potter Costumes: Why They Aren't Just for Kids
"Harry Potter costumes, books and movies are just for kids"
This is something everyone who's familiar with the Harry Potter franchise has probably heard at some point in their life. A lot of people believe that Harry Potter costumes, books, and movies are just for kids. Well, I indisputably disagree. The Harry Potter series is one of the most renowned series of our generation. It doesn't matter if we're talking about the movies, books or Harry Potter costumes, they are all immensely popular. None of this could have become so widespread and loved worldwide if Harry Potter was "just for kids." It is just as much for adults as it is for kids. Harry Potter books and movies are proof of the existence of magic and trust me, everyone needs a little magic in their life. Obviously, Harry Potter costumes are also as magical and appealing as the books and the movies.
To better understand why Harry Potter costumes aren't just for kids, we first need to understand why Harry Potter movies and books are a lot more than just a child's thing. It has been more than thirteen years since I was first introduced to the magical world of Harry Potter. I indeed was an eight year old kid back then, but I have grown watching and obsessing about the Harry Potter movies. Being an adult, now I fully comprehend what J.K. Rowling was trying to tell us. After the first two movies and books, which were indeed for kids, it grew a little darker and more serious with every next installment. Harry Potter Costumes played a vital role in setting a serious tone. Lord Voldemort for instance, who's portrayed wearing those completely black (and indeed scary) overalls, does not look like a villain from a kids movie at all. He is one of the most ruthless and merciless villains you'll ever come across. Not to forget that he murdered his own father with The Killing Curse. Sounds a little too dark for "just a kid's book," doesn't it?
I admit Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger were just 11 years old when we were first introduced to them, but then we also watched them grow into sensible adults. We saw Harry become a man from being 'The boy who lived'. But there's one thing that remained constant: the iconic nature of the Harry Potter costumes. The way J.K Rowling presented the wizarding world and the lucid costumes to us are highly appreciated all across the world. People wearing long robes and a holding a wand in hand are the first two things that come to mind whenever we hear the word 'wizards'. That's how much we've been influenced by the Harry Potter costumes.
The magical world J.K Rowling has created is so detailed and explicit that it appeals well to the adults too, along with the kids. Kids may ignore this, but an adult can clearly notice the intriguing connections she made with magic and the wonderful characters. There at least is one character that you'll relate to because every character has a different personality and depth to it. The thing that makes the characters more realistic is that they are not portrayed as 'perfect'; they have flaws, like all of us. Not to mention, every character has a unique look. You know what that means: A lot of beautiful costumes to choose from. This is a great selling point for Harry Potter costumes, especially for Halloween. No matter what age group you belong to, there is going to be something for you in the Harry Potter costumes.
You can also choose which one from the collection of Harry Potter costumes you want to put on to be a wizard. You can also dress up according to the house you love the most. Your house preferences can also depend on your own characteristics. Bravery is for Gryffindor, intelligence for Ravenclaw, hard work for Hufflepuff and cunningness is for Slytherin. Not that all Slytherins are evil, but if you just want to be an evil wizard, I'd suggest you dress up like a Slytherin. In the end, it doesn't really matter if you're a kid or an adult, or what traits you possess, Harry Potter costumes will always have something to offer you. So, leave the muggle world behind for a day, and wear something magical from the Harry Potter costumes' collection.
