Guardians of the Galaxy Makeup Tutorial: Gamora Transformation
By Anita Alex
Gamora is a bold female superhero whose nickname is the “deadliest woman in the galaxy.” One of the main characters in the comics, she is now most commonly known for her role in the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. According to the film, when she was young, her family was killed by Thanos, an evil supervillain who adopted Gamora and trained her to be an assassin. After her family died, she became the last of her species. However, she later turned against him after learning of an evil deal he made to destroy planet Xandar. She was then compelled to ally herself with the other guardians to save the galaxy. Even though the chance of living after this was slim to none, she embraced that fact because all her life she had lived amongst enemies, so dying amongst friends for a greater cause was something she would be glad to do.
Gamora is the last of her species, a green-skinned race from the planet Zen-Whoberis. Besides the obvious green skin, her most distinct features [in the film] are silver markings on her face and her hair—a red ombre, from dark brown to red. In some lighting, her red hair can look magenta and even purple, which makes for a fun-to-do cosplay look.
This is a very simple makeup tutorial that shows you how you can transform yourself into the courageous Gamora.
(Note: before starting this transformation, I recommend to change into the costume so that way the makeup won’t get ruined trying to put on the costume afterward.)
Things that you will need:
- •Green face paint
- •Eyeshadow Colors: Green, shimmery yellow, black
- •Eyeliner
- •Silver face paint
- •Makeup brushes
- •Cream lipstick (I used a dark purple lip instead of green, but green can definitely be used)
- •Lash glue
- •False lashes
- •Gamora Costume
- •Costume Wig
Gamora has a green skin tone, so take a green colored cream makeup and apply it to all exposed skin. Don’t forget the neck and ears. Make sure to cover up the eyebrows as well.
After applying the green base, you need to create dimension. Use a dark green eyeshadow color to contour the face. Apply this shade in the hollows of your cheeks, the sides of your forehead, jawline, down the bridge of your nose, extending it up to where your eyebrow starts, and on the sides of your neck.
As always, after contouring, highlight the high points of your face with a light yellow shimmery highlight color. The high points include the tip of your nose, right above your cheekbone, forehead, and chin.
For the eyes, I used this reference photo.
I noticed that she wears a heavy smokey eye look. So for the eyes, I cover the whole lid with black eyeshadow and then on the crease, I applied a dark green color. Then blend it out. I then lined her eyes with a black eyeliner.
Gamora has silver markings so I first took an eyeliner pencil to sketch out the markings. After, I took some silver cream makeup and with a small brush, traced over the sketches. I also used the same reference photo to do this.
For the lips, I wanted to do a purple color so I had mixed a red and blue cream lipstick colors and applied it on the lips.
To complete the makeup look, I used an adhesive to apply some false lashes.
To finish the transformation, put on the wig and your look is complete.
