Doctor Strange Costume on the Big Screen is Helping Build the Hype
Nothing is better than seeing a classic superheroes come to life on the big screen while still remaining in their iconic costumes. When it comes down to it, sometimes there’s superheroes with completely newly designed costumes that pay no respect to when they were first created. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a little change, every superhero we see on-screen today has a different adaptation to their costumes to give themselves a more “modern” look. These adaptations still happen to resemble their past selves. For example, Superman, when Superman made his first appearance in 1938, he was of course rocking the classic “underwear outside of pants” costume. Nobody can ever forget that look, but now, Henry Cavill’s Superman costume has the underwear on the inside. A change like this is something that fans can deal with and since DC seems to be reaching out for a more mature tone in their films, it would be hard to take Superman serious if he looked as his original comic book self did. Another example would probably also be Aquaman, imagine Jason Momoa’s Aquaman costume to be the same old skin tight, orange and green suit. Just try and see Khal Drogo swimming around with costume on talking to fish. It’s hard to think of right? It’s something that would be way too weird to have on the big screen. With that being said, some changes aren’t all that bad; there are certain superhero costumes that are meant to only stay in the comics.
Marvel
Lately, Marvel has done a fantastic job with keeping the originality to most superhero costumes. If you look at the new Spider-Man costume in Captain America: Civil War compared to his costume in the comics designed by Steve Ditko, there is an uncanny resemblance. You can’t forget the time when everybody lost their mind the moment Cap put on his vintage costume in the Avengers film. Also when Ant-Man surprisingly turned into Giant-Man. These costumes play such a significant role in the upbringing of these characters and defines them for who they really are. One superhero in particular that I want to focus on is the one and only, Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange.
From what we’ve seen from trailers released for the upcoming film Doctor Strange, everything looks astonishing and the excitement is through the roof. I couldn’t think of any other perfect actor to portray Doctor Strange other than Sherlock Holmes actor Benedict Cumberbatch. From the goatie to the grey hairs, there’s no explaining how much he resembles comic book Doctor Strange. A major contribution to this awesome cast is how iconic Doctor Strange’s costume appears on-screen. You can really tell that Marvel took a big step back into the past for this one! Doctor Strange’s costume is well known to have an ancient and mystical theme to it with the cape and the eye of Agamatto. Marvel didn’t change too much but did what they always do to other superhero costumes, they gave it a little modern touch. Considering the fact that Doctor Strange’s costume majorly contributes to his character in such a classic way, there wasn’t really any chance that Marvel would take it into consideration of adapting it to a whole other level. For those big Doctor Strange fans, this costume appearing up on screen with Benedict Cumberbatch in it is an absolute blessing. It builds up the hype for the upcoming film a whole lot more. When it was first announced that Benedict was cast, some fans questioned the decision, but after seeing him in action, most were beyond impressed with Benedict’s performance. Now it’s become even more difficult to have to wait two months for this film to be released. There’s a lot of high expectations for this film and we haven’t seen anything yet!
