Will We See the Same Awesome Costumes in The Mummy Re-Boot?

The Mummy is perhaps one of the most beloved cult franchises ever. While yes, it had great mainstream success, it didn’t quite get the following that many had hoped for. However, people have created somewhat of a cult following for the classing franchise and many were angered when a re-boot was announced that would star Tom Cruise. Many of us grew up watching these movies and they have a special place in our hearts. The one thing that always stood out to me about the movie was the aesthetic design of the entire film—everything from the scenery, to ground breaking special effects and yes, even the Egyptian themed costumes. The Mummy did an amazing job of bringing a great style to the adventurers, but also staying true to the breathtaking Egyptian style that was a main focus of the original series. The costumes were so great that they instantly became one of the hottest Halloween costumes for a few years and many are wondering if the 2017 re-boot can spark that same magic.
The Costumes From The Mummy (1999) Were Absolutely Amazing!

Egyptian style has always been a favorite of mine, so I must admit I am a bit of a sucker for The Mummy’s incredible take on the Egyptian theme. I absolutely loved the getup that Brendan Fraser wore on-screen. It had the really classic, adventure look that took me right back to the Indiana Jones days! He was merely the tip of the iceberg; however, the Egyptian gods and goddesses that are portrayed in the franchise looked absolutely remarkable.

You can really tell that the directors paid attention to detail. Not only were the Egyptians portrayed perfectly, the costumes they wore were even more mesmerizing. Everything from the golden bracelets, to the beads in women’s hair really gives you the true Egyptian feel. I cannot even explain to you how impressive it was to see these amazing costumes on the big screen. I honestly felt like I was taken back to the Egyptian era and it sparked my interest like no other adventure movie had before. Everyone wanted to dress up as the characters for Halloween and it was really one of the hottest costume trends over the past 20 years.
Will The Mummy Re-Boot Live Up To The Awesome Design Of The Original?

We haven’t seen much of The Mummy Re-boot as of yet but the few set pictures we have seen look to have changed things up a bit. The main thing being: Tom Cruise’s outfit that you see above. The difference between his and Brendan Fraser’s is completely different and I must say I’m a bit disappointed.

I was such a fan of the suspenders that Brendan Fraser rocked and I must say I was hoping for much of the same with Tom Cruise. What we get instead is tom Cruise dressed very casually in a plain button up and some slacks, not really Halloween Costume material is it? I will reserve my judgment, however, since this is the only set photo we have received as of now and we still haven’t seen any Egyptians! I really hope that The Mummy re-boot will come back strong and take over the Halloween scene next year. I personally would love to dress up as a Mummy fighting adventurer, but I really am not too excited about the slacks and dress shirt. If they don’t deliver with our primary protagonist, the least they could do is give us some really kick-ass Egyptian characters to dress up as next Halloween!
Let’s All Hope The Re-Boot Will Bring It!

The Mummy re-boot will undoubtedly be a huge blockbuster, but I am truly worried about how they will reach the cosplay audience. I honestly could not tell you how many times I have seen someone cosplay as Brendan Fraser’s Mummy character and I want to see the same thing from Tom Cruise’s rendition. The Egyptian characters are truly the key to the box of fortune, or misfortune if they don’t pull it off. If they can nail the look of these characters, especially with the costumes, they will have something special on their hands. The Mummy will not be complete without true Ancient Egyptian costumes.
