Times Square, the Crossroads of the World
By Admin
New York City – You may know it as the Big Apple, the City that Never Sleeps, the Capital of the World, the Concrete Jungle, etc. Regardless of what you call it, Times Square is the center of the city and prime example of every nickname. It even has its own nickname, “The Crossroads of the World”. It is estimated that about half a million visitors from all over the world and local commuters pass through Times Square on a daily basis; tour guides will jokingly tell you that if you stand there long enough, you will run into your doppelganger or at least someone you know. Well, even if you don’t run into your doppelganger you will be sure to run into your favorite super hero.
This kid certainly did; four of them as a matter of fact. Any day or night you can walk around Times Square and run into Batman, Wolverine, Wonder Woman, The Hulk, Ironman, Thor; any hero you can think of has probably been there. The secret is that they are not real superheroes (Bummer!); these are actually people who earn tips for posing in photographs with visitors. They key to their success is in their superhero costumes. These people can’t get away with a little bit of face paint; they have to go all out and use the most realistic versions of the costumes available.
It doesn’t just stop at Super Heroes; you can find popular animated characters and T.V. Puppets taking a stroll down Broadway while looking for the next lucky tourist to take a picture with; Check out Woody and Hello Kitty.
These two really know what they’re doing, who would turn down Elmo or the Cookie Monster? Catch a glimpse of the Iron Patriot Costume behind Elmo. Although the Cookie Monster is the center of attention, he is surrounded by stars. Take a look at Hello Kitty, Lady Liberty, Spider-man, and Mickey Minnie Mouse in the background.
The Times Square experience is surreal. Have you visited Times Square yet? Tell us about your experience, we would love to hear from you.
