5 Geeky Father’s Day Gifts You Can Get from a Costume Store
By Admin
Shopping for dad’s Father’s Day gift can be a simple task for most. After all, Father’s Day takes a backseat to Mother’s Day and even (most) dads will tell you that they don’t have high expectations for the holiday; they will settle for “a little respect,” according to a survey conducted by Today.com in 2012. It’s 2016, but it is likely that dads still feel the same. Maybe, a great way to show dad that you really care and respect him is by giving him a gift that shows that you truly know him or at least one that represents how you feel about him. You wouldn’t think that costume store is the best place to find the perfect Father’s Day gift, but you’d be surprised at the hidden gems that you can find in our vast inventory of novelty costumes, props and clever accessories. A few weeks ago, the Huffington post picked up our Super Dad costume to feature in a 2016 guide to weird Father’s Day Gifts.
Huff Post was looking for weird novelty items and the Super Dad definitely made the cut. Just looking at it you can tell the costume has no use outside of Halloween or a random costume party throughout the year. Nonetheless, it is a cute idea to tell dad that you see him as a superhero that does it all. In light of this exposure, we decided to come up with a brief list of Father’s Day gifts that dad will actually appreciate and possibly use despite being novelty products form a costume shop. Of course, you have to keep an open mind and consider that the recipient of one of these unique Father’s Day gifts is also open minded and possibly a geeky dad.
The List
It may be a late for you to get to get one of these gifts in time for Father’s Day on Sunday, but we still thought it would be fun to share some why-not ideas.
1. Darth Vader Lightsaber
You can find this classic gem in our Darth Vader costumes section dedicated to the most popular father in sci-fi—who also wielded the most iconic sci-fi weapon of all time. A geeky dad will absolutely love this thoughtful gift that doesn’t run you more than $12 (plus shipping). You may want to hide your hands from dad after give this to him.
2. Magic of Rahat Head Falling Prank Costume
Here’s something from our funny costumes category for the prankster dad. The magic of Rahat became an internet sensation thanks to YouTube and his viral videos. Rahat goes around the streets pranking unsuspecting people with over-the-top, unbelievable magic tricks that aim to shock and awe. It seems almost impossible for the average joe to replicate Rahat’s magic, but Rahat is not selfish. He licensed one of his most famous magic pranks to MorphSuits (among many others) to be reproduced as a costume so that your father—and just about everyone—everywhere can pull some head falling pranks of their own. Check out the video of how it works:
3. Heath Ledger’s Classic Joker Mask
For the dad that’s into comic, costumes and collectibles, this is a relic. Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in the Dark Knight has already gone down in history as the most iconic portrayal of Batman’s craziest archenemy. The historic value of Ledger’s performance was further sealed as it was also one of his last major roles before his unexpected passing. Dad will love this mask, either as a part of a Halloween costume or a just to keep in his collection of Batman/comic book memorabilia. You can find this and many other Joker masks in our Batman costume shop.
4. Superhero T-Shirt and Mask Kits
This is actually for the dad who is not into costumes but appreciates superhero comics (and possibly for dads who are not even into comics). Let’s face it, there is a lot of pressure on dad to bond with his kids and do things that he normally wouldn’t—like dressing up for Halloween, for example. These superhero t-shirt and mask costume kits are the perfect want to meet dad halfway. When you gift him one of these, he does not have to dress up in full costume and yet, he will be able to participate in fun Halloween activities or costume parties with the kids. These are light, comfortable, easy to wear definitely cool. Get these and many other in our t-shirt section.
5. Ugly Holiday/Christmas Sweaters
We conclude our list with fabulously ugly holiday sweaters. While ugly sweaters seem like a big Father’s Day no-no, they are actually a huge yes! These hideous sweaters were once dreaded holiday family picture eye-sores, but they have made a successful comeback thanks to the popularity of ugly sweater holiday parties. The intention for wearing one has changed but they are even more appealing now than when grandma knitted them. That’s why the costume industry has pushed grandma aside and stepped in to try to produce the ugliest, most ridiculous holiday sweaters that dad will happily wear to this year’s holiday parties to get laughs and be the center of attention (if he likes that type of thing). If you visit our Christmas costumes page, you will find many options to choose from—including modern types that make use of a smart phones to animate the darn things.
The Truth About Father’s Day Gifts
Plain and simple, the truth is that—unlike on Mother’s Day—you can get away with gifting dad anything (that doesn’t offend him, of course) and he will be happy that you took time to think about him. Sure, you can go to Ross or TJ-Maxx and get him a cheap designer tie and socks, and he will smile and thank you for it. However, dad deserves a much more thoughtful gift that shows that you tried, because he is—hopefully— thoughtful enough to understand that you love him any time of the year and gladly accept a lacking gift that he will never use.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
