The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are an unlikely team of four orphaned turtles named after four very famous and revered Renaissance artists. The four crime fighting amphibians were first seen in a comic book some time in the 1980's. Legend has it that the turtles were able to obtain their otherworldly abilities by coming in contact with a strange green substance. The turtles were under the care of a rat by the name of Sensei Master Splinter, Splinter also obtained special powers because he was the one who rescued the turtles from the sewer. I think the rest of the story is pretty well known.
