Star Wars The Last Jedi Costumes
We have picked the top Star Wars The Last Jedi Costumes for you
In more ways than we can imagine, Star Wars all but defined pop culture as we know it today. Let alone the barrage of all kinds of costumes from the series you get to see on Halloweens, fan conventions or even Christmases and weddings, it is impossible to go through a day without an inadvertent reference creeping in here or there. The question that looms on our minds, is how did an ambitious yet simple story about a group of rebels trying to stop a dastardly empire with a young boy at the center of it become such a cultural phenomenon? The answer is quite simple: Vision.
There’s no contesting the fact that Episodes I through VI are born entirely out of George Lucas’s vision. Apart from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life, no film immediately comes to mind when you think of a film born and conceived singularly out of the director’s vison, except Star Wars, retroactively titled Episode IV: A New Hope. George Lucas had an idea about a sprawling epic taking place in a galaxy far, far away, and understanding the lofty ambitions of the story he wanted to tell, he took meticulous care of every aspect of the filmmaking process, so not only did his films have an engaging story and lovable characters, but also a very visual approach to its storytelling. This visual approach really shines through in the sets and costume designs, as each character in the universe, no matter how major or minor, has their own unique design and a costume to go with it. As iconic as Darth Vader’s costume is, or as flashy as Han Solo’s Henley and open vest costume might be, when a director puts in the same amount of love into other characters’ designs and costumes, you know he is committed to create an interesting, yet lived-in universe. This is the reason why fans love characters like Boba Fett, because while he does not have a very significant role in the story, he has a very appealing costume, and the costume is appealing enough to floor fans to this day!
This tradition of focussing on the costumes and set designs to reiterate the universe’s existence looks to be continuing in today’s non-Lucas Star Wars attempts as well. After a brief sojourn into the CGI realm with the prequel trilogy, the sequel trilogy and the anthology films look to be bringing the practical effects and costumes back, as witnessed by 2015’s record breaking Episode VII – The Force Awakens and 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with both introducing new characters and droids, but with each having their own unique costume and design instead of merely rehashing an existing one. A commitment to furthering the legacy of the franchise is indeed a heartening one for the fans.
